5 Amazing Horseback Riding Vacations in North America

» Blog » Travel » 5 Amazing Horseback Riding Vacations in North America

Are you a riding enthusiast looking for a grand adventure this summer? An experience that includes riding horses in a different location. Are you up for learning new riding skills while partaking in beautiful scenery and terrain?

Have you ever thought about going on a riding vacation for equestrians?

A horseback riding vacation adventure is a unique opportunity to explore a new locale while spending time with your favorite four-legged friends.

The question is, how do you choose the perfect horse vacation? If you spend any time on Google searching “Horse riding tours near me,” you will find a plethora of dude ranches and equine travel locations throughout the United States and Canada.

Horseware is here to help. We’ve compiled five of the perfect riding vacation in the United States and Canada to make your search easier.

Willamette Coast Ride – English Riding Vacation in the Pacific Northwest (Intermediate and Advanced Riders)

English riding tours are hard to come by throughout the US and Canada. So if your greatest desire is a horse ride in an English saddle, look no further than the Willamette Coast Ride with Justin and Lindley Leahy. Your guides have extensive horse handling and riding experience.

The Willamette Coast Ride experience is four days of riding in a small, personal group (7 – 9 riders).  It is a progressive ride, moving west from wine country towards the Pacific on a different trail each day. Inclusive of accommodations, breakfast, packed picnic lunch on the trail, three dinners, and two wine tastings. It is indeed a solid intermediate to advanced level riding trip.  Over the four days, we will ride in three distinct landscapes: wine country, temperate rainforest mountains, and two spectacular beaches.

Accommodations are in boutique bed and breakfasts and condos at the coast, with generous hospitality and an excellent feel for the Pacific Northwest.

Riding itinerary:

On day one, ride the vineyard land and rolling hills of the picturesque farmland of the Willamette Valley and enjoy tasting the delicious fruits and labors of local winemakers.

On day two, we ride in the Coastal Range Mountains. These mountains are rugged and mellow, with groves of deciduous trees along the clear waters of the Nestucca River and towering Douglas Firs.

Days 3 and 4 are spent riding not one but two expansive, Pacific beaches! With lots of room for a galloping, We return to the valley after riding the second beach. Clients stay Thursday, their final night back in the Tuscan Estate. (https://willamettecoastride.com/)

Take a peek at this exhilarating gallop on the Oregon coast to get a feel for the experience.

Contact the Leahy’s ASAP because their bookings fill up super fast. You might have to plan a year ahead. Surely an adventure worth the wait.

Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm – English Riding in the Mad River Valley of Central Vermont (Intermediate to Advanced)

Do you dream of encountering the various gates of the magnificent Icelandic horse and traveling on this iconic breed through forests, meadows, and mountains?

This beautiful Icelandic horse farm, nestled in central Vermont, is set up to create the ultimate experience for you to make your dreams come true.

You will also learn about the tremendous versatility, gentle willingness, and tremendous stamina the Icelanders offer. And experience the unique equine mannerisms exclusive to this breed.

There is probably no better introduction to the remarkable Icelandic Horse than our daily trail rides. We’ll match a horse to your level of experience, and we’ll travel at a pace that suits you so that you can experience the horse’s gentle temperament and smooth gaits. You won’t believe how much action is possible underneath you while you feel the sensation, as Icelanders describe it, of “riding in an easy chair.”

Our seasoned guide will lead you out along the quaint back roads of the Mad River Valley and, in season, across meadows and into the woods on the slopes of the Green Mountains. Along the way, we love to talk about the unique characteristics and history of Icelandic Horses and point out the natural features, wildlife, and spectacular scenery of the countryside. By the end of the ride, you’re likely to have made a fast friend of the horse that has just taken you on a most memorable journey.

Our hospitality has only begun when your Icelandic Horse ride has ended, and we’ve returned to the farm and dismounted. For a complete Vermont vacation experience, we invite you to stay with us at the Mad River Inn.

Our rambling 1860’s-era Victorian country house is a relaxing complement to a day in the saddle. Soak in our hot tub, sleep restfully in our feather beds, and awake to a gourmet country breakfast. We’ll serve it on our back porch overlooking the meadow in season. (https://icelandichorses.com/)
